How our night went.....28th Sept. Night of the egg in the soup;-)

Many thanks to everyone who attended our recent Chomp event on 28th Sept, we appreciate your support. We saw some new faces and some of our treasured regulars. Preparation started early in the week with bread to prove and stocks to simmer and ingredients to buy. When the bakery closes Saturday it is a race against time to get prepped and set up.Being in our own premises we love how we can set up and decorate with our own personal stamp.

The night started off with a Sangria made with a white wine and spiced almonds for nibbles.

Despite our confidence growing in our menus with each event we do, we had massive doubts about the starter. Despite the whole idea of Chomp Supper Club being to provide guests with a different dining experience serving a poached egg in the soup may have been a step too far. Doubt descended into major panic earlier in the afternoon and then it was too late to change. We served the garlic soup with pimenton and poached egg with baited breath and shaking hands ...and....not one egg came back! Needless to say we were delighted.

Mains was a delicious Harrisa Chicken, the time and effort making the harrisa paste being well worth it ( look out for jars of this in the bakery...coming very soon). This was served with a grapefruit and maple syrup sauce flavoured with cinnamon and star anise. Sides were roast baby potatoes with thyme, baby rocket and grapefruit salad, and spinach and raisins cooked with pine nuts and garlic.

Dessert was Spanish Almond& Lemon Meringue, lovely and tangy with the nuts adding a lovely contrast to the creamy middles, served with whipped cream, raspberry coulis and creme patisserie.

The meal was ended with tea, freshly brewed coffee and pastillitos, a traditional Spanish sweet made with almonds and pistachios
The night ended late with a few songs and I am sure a few sore heads the next day ( including our own, sore feet too). We are looking forward to our next night already!

Our New Venue!!

Chomp Supper Club had a very successful night in their new venue on Main Street, Dunlavin on the 27th July. Those familiar with Dunlavin will know this as next to the old hardware shop. This lovely intimate setting is also home to Chomp Bakery, open Saturday for cakes, brunch and delicious coffee 10.00am to 2.00pm. We would like to thank Meiteal for their hospitality over the last few months and the very enjoyable nights we had there. Thanks also to our regulars and some new faces who came along on the night.

The First Supper - how it went

Our first supper was a great experience - we were so nervous in the lead up worrying if we would sell any tickets and then when we sold out we went into panic overdrive. Then we worried if people would turn up!  On the night we worried if the bread bowls would leak...thankfully they didn't! But in the end what a wonderful night we had ( apart from the loss of a treasured Gerpoint jug...sorry Aoife). We hope all our guests enjoyed the night much as we did, they seemed to as all the feedback was good and we have lots of interest in our next supper that we are currently planning. The artichoke had a lovely rich earthy flavour that made the torturous peeling worth the effort, this was served in bread bowls with sourdough croutons, a flower and herb butter and chestnut parsley pesto. The main course of slow roasted breast of lamb was melt in the mouth delicious with the date and preserved lemons adding an extra suprise. This was served with creamy dauphinoise potatoes and an refreshing chickpea salad. The trio of desserts went down with great delight, the complimenting flavours of  chocolate crusted lemon tart and cardamom white chocolate mouse making an interesting combination. The towering lushious Croquembouche looked stunning and despite more of our fears we did not drop it. The night came to a late end finishing off with freshly brewed tea and coffee served with peppermint creams, and our guests went home with little christmas gifts of homemade dark chocolate truffles and cranberry and almond fudge. We sourced fabulous quality ingredients, with Myles Doyle Butchers supplying the lamb and Castleruddery Organic Farm supplying the vegetables and our combined cooking skills were on top form on the night!
The only low point - the clean up next day! Any volunteers for kitchen  porter perhaps??
